Prom

I had the best dance experience this year. I have never had a greater time with a school dance before. I owe it all to my date. All of my dance experiences before were usually pretty stressful, this one was so undeniably low key and fun. I even left school a little early and was able to calmly get ready, even having time to spare before my date showed up.

The time of getting ready for the dance was pretty relaxing. I left the school at 11:45 with some girls in yearbook. We definitely weren’t the only ones leaving to get ready. The line to leave the school went all the way down the red hallway. We were supposed to have no school that day, but because of the primaries we had to switch our no-school day for that day. As soon as I got home, I ate food and chilled for a couple hours. I didn’t do much during that time, except give myself an at home facial. I didn’t really start getting ready until 1:30, where I did my hair, and then started my makeup afterwards.

My date and I didn’t really have a plan for the night, except that we were going to get a bunch of food and eat it. We were originally going to eat and take pictures outside in a field, but it started to rain, so we had to plan things around that. So around 3 we decided on a plan, and we agreed to have him come to my house at 5:30, giving me a lot of time to get ready. My mother had made my dress, and had only finished it that morning. I was really eager to put it on, so I put it on with a lot of time to spare. My family all came over, so the house began to get really rowdy. The fact I hadn’t had a lot of coffee, made me a little catty. So my mother and I kept snipping at each other. Causing my grandmother’s best friend to talk me out of crying or screaming. It was definitely a mixture of the stress of the dance and my mother and I’s exhaustion.

I finished my makeup around 4:30, and didn’t really know what to do with myself, so I ended up getting into my dress at 5, and just weirdly laid in bed until 5:15. When my date finally came, my whole family all got so excited. He knocked on my door and everything went quiet except for my dog who started freaking out. I opened it, and there he was, holding a bouquet of flowers and said, “I never formally asked you to prom, so I got you flowers to do it properly.” It was adorable. His parents were out there, along with his sister, and got some adorable pictures of us.

The night was really fun and lowkey. We went to the grand march and waited in the long line to take a lap around the gym. Now that I think about it, it’s not required, but pretty much everyone goes to it. All the parents come and watch everyone take their lap. It’s pretty boring in all honesty, there’s no music playing, but it gives the town a chance to see all of everyone’s outfits. After we finished, we sat in his car, and I ordered 3 different entrees for our take-out potluck. He hasn’t been exposed to a lot of ethnic foods, so we made it a point to try all the different types of food. We got orange chicken from China House, pad see ew from Bangkok Grill, and some steak tacos with some soda from El Amigo. It was really awesome, and it was so much better than going to a fancy dinner. We ate it on the porch in my house, and just had a nice calm time before the storm. My younger brother and his girlfriend came over and hung out with us for a little bit, which was so adorable. We headed to the dance after we ate our fill, and danced into the night. We really only had 3 breaks for the whole night, one of them being the crowning of the prom queen and princess. I didn’t win, but I was in no way upset, the girl who won is one of the sweetest people I know. The dance was great, I would highly recommend not even worrying about going with a group, because then you’re able to dance with anyone and everyone at the actual dance. Which is exactly what Nick and I did. We finally left around 11:30 and participated in some after dance activities with our friends. Which ended with me sleeping over at one of my girlfriend’s house with some of my other friends.

I’ll make a post on our Saturday plans, cause those were just as fun!
