Weekly Recap: 5/21-5/25
This week was pretty chill, it’s odd knowing that it’s my last week of school next week. I can’t believe that I’m actually graduating. I can remember my first day of kindergarten so vividly, and now I’m about to experience my last day of high school in America. It’s really odd knowing I still have another year of highschool, but in a different country. I can’t believe it. I really only have 3 months left in America before I leave. It all seems to have come so quickly. I am excited for this adventure, but nervous all the same.
This week has been a nice little peek into what this summer is going to be like. Lots of late nights, tired mornings, and goofing around in between. I didn’t go to school on Monday because it was senior ditch day, instead I slept in, made myself breakfast, listened to the playlist my boyfriend made me, and did the chores my mother gave me. I then went to a cafe with one of my girlfriend’s and we worked on some of our final study guides. A really rebellious senior skip day, am I right? Some of my friends went to chicago, but in reality all of us wanted to go to the beach, but with it being only 60 degrees that day, it seemed it would have been a highly uncomfortable beach day. After the cafe, I had my Drama Club banquet, where I got inducted into the Thespian Society. Founding member and all!! It’s the first time Valpo has done the Thespian Society in 30 years, so my senior class is the founding club, how cool is that? My parents came and all of us sat with one of my best friends, who is also the president of drama club. She also was the one who made the slideshow for the banquet, where she definitely did me dirty. Putting a 20 second video of me making some obscene gestures with my friends. I couldn’t really look at my parents during that whole thing. I always forget how goofy I really can get, and it’s always odd to see my antics in the third person.
Tuesday was a boring day at school. School feels nearly pointless at this point. All of my classes were spent watching some sort of movie. Nothing special at all, just lots and lots of movies. It’s always so weird watching multiple movies throughout the day, because you don’t even get to watch the full movie, so you have multiple snippets of movies playing in your head the whole day. And then watching a new movie later in the day, it can get confusing haha. After school I had a rehearsal for Mr. VHS. Mr. VHS is basically a mock pageant for the senior boys. They take girls as their escorts. This year’s theme was the Olympics, so everyone had to do a sport with their respective country. They also have a questions, talent, and formal wear section. I escorted my friend Bryce, and we went as Sweden. Anyway, it was a really, really stressful rehearsal, not going to lie. It was not an easy time. There was definitely a power struggle. Mr. VHS is run by the Student Council, but they decided to collaborate with Drama Club to help put the show on. So the President of Drama Club, who also happens to be one of my best friends directed it. But, there was a problem. She is a GREAT director for drama club productions, but Mr. VHS is not a drama club production. It is a very chill, funny production, NOT a drama club production. But, sadly it turned into a drama club production, which caused 16 people to quit. The president of StuCo was upset because he no longer had a say in the show, and so lots of tension was present which ultimately turned Tuesday into a yelling match. One side yelling that they weren’t having fun, the other side saying they weren’t taking this seriously enough. It was stressful and not fun at all.
On Wednesday we had a rehearsal but maybe it was because my mind really didn’t want to go, but I was left with an awful migraine. It thankfully went away by 5, but by then it was too late to go to the rehearsal. My boyfriend ended up coming over and sat with me while I worked on homework. He ended up not leaving until 11:30 pm, which is unheard of for a school night. We sat on the porch and chatted with my younger brother for a couple of hours. I had to finish my Final Speech for Speech class. It was on child brides, which isn’t actually an easy topic to talk about.
On Thursday, my boyfriend came over again and we ended up taking a nap on the couch in my living room. We weren’t even watching a movie or anything, we both just ended up falling asleep for an hour or so. We had gone thrift shopping for a hot minute after school, and I guess that sucked the energy right out of us. I wasn’t complaining, I had woken up early that morning to finish my speech. The speech didn’t go as well as I wanted it to. I went a minute over, so that means 10% off my grade, which was really upsetting. It was also just a really sad topic to talk about, and my mouth felt like it had cotton balls in it the whole time. Anyway, my dad ended up staying home from work, so he went golfing, and when he came back, him, my boyfriend, john, and I sat outside and ate popsicles. John and Nick played soccer for a little bit, and then I had to go to Bible study. Nick dropped me off at my youth group leader’s house and then he went home. Bible study was really great, it’s kind of like a lecture right now, because we’re building the basis of it. So our whole discussion for the night was on worldviews, which is incredibly interesting.
On Friday, I had Mr. VHS, which went so well. It was so incredibly funny. I’ll make a separate post on it, with pictures and everything. Because it was a TRIP. Nick (my boyfriend) and I went to Steak N Shake afterwards to get strawberry milkshakes. Turns out, the whole show had the same idea, and they all filed in. Steak N Shake took their time since it was a big crowd, so Nick and I decided to sit separately from them so we could get our milkshakes faster. The other crowd wasn’t too happy with us, but oh well, we got our milkshakes and that’s all that matters. We went over to his house after and watched Mulan, because the kid never has seen it! Can you believe it? He ended up not seeing it again because we both passed out, and I ended up not getting home until 1:30 am, which did NOT fly with my mom. Oh well, you live and you learn.
All in all, it was a good and easy week. This weekend has been pretty good so far, fingers crossed my day off tomorrow is just as good!
