Frequently Asked Questions (From My Party) Part 2

What language do Romanians speak, and does Ollie speak it?

The language Romanians speak is… Romanian! And no, Ollie does not speak it besides saying “Hello, my name is Ollie Grcich” so please pray for her. She needs all the help she can get.

Why did she choose Romania?

With the program she is in, she did not get a choice, so she got Romania because that’s where they/God wanted her! She’s actually the one of two girls who will be the first people to go to Romania from Central States Rotary in the history of Central States Rotary International Youth Exchange.

Can I talk to her or visit her when she’s there?

It is recommended to abstain from contact with anyone from home for the first 30 days of exchange, and Ollie would like to stick to this. She is not allowed to have any visitors from home until she has been settled in for at least 9 months. She asks everyone to be very understanding of this and try to limit contact as much as possible.

How can I know what she’s been up to?

Ollie is required to upkeep a blog, with posts 3 times a week, you can find her website on her business card. You can follow what she’s up to on there! She also LOVES receiving letters. If you would like to write letters to Ollie or have her write letters to you, please fill out a spot in the address book! As soon as she gets her address for her host family, she will send you a letter!!

Will she be living by herself or with a family?

She will have three host families while she’s in Romania! She’ll be moving every 3 months! Her first host family consists of her host father, John, who is a retired police colonel, her host mother, Simona, who owns a hair salon, and a younger host sister, Jasmina, who is 12 years old!

Is Ollie excited or nervous?

She’s very excited, she has been dreaming of studying abroad since she was very little! It’s the one thing she is absolutely sure of. She is, rightfully so, scared out of her mind, as she will be without anyone she knows, in a country she does not know, with people speaking a language she does not know. But, as ABBA says in the song “I Wonder”, she actually heard it in Mamma Mia 2, which is now, to her family’s dismay, stuck in her head, “But who the hell am I if I don’t even try, I’m not a coward, Oh no, I’ll be strong, One chance in a lifetime, Yes I will take it, it can’t go wrong.” So there we go!
